Kuvan tiedotMAGIC DOOR, 2018, salvaged plastic bottles, bottle caps and plastic bags, wood, metal wire and nylon chord, 2 x 1,6 meters. Exhibited in the Environmental Park 2018 in Vanhankylän kartano, Järvenpää. The exhibition was organized by Uudenmaan kuvataidejärjestöt ry. under the theme "History and Today in Environmental Art". NARRATIVE BEHIND THE ARTWORK: I was amazed by how many people do not return plastic bottles for through the very handy Finnish recycling system, where you get paid to return the bottles. These found bottles became part of the work. I was also struck by how many of those who do return their bottles bring them in plastic bags that they discard in the trash next to the recycling center. I collected some of these bags, washed them and repurposed them for the artwork. Plastic is the bane of our age as litters nature and oceans. In addition to the aesthetic disadvantages, it also presents health dangers to all living creatures whether it is whales eating massive amounts of plastic trash or micro-organisms feeding on microplastics - both species failing to get nourisment from what they eat. Humans at the apex of the nutrition chain also end up eating creatures who have fed on plastics. *** TAIKAOVI, 2018, löydetyt muovipullot, pullonkorkit ja muovipussit, puu, metallilanka, nylonnaru, 2 x 1,6 metriä.
